3 top tips for social media marketing

Whatever your business, it's important for you to do everything you can to get your brand out there. One of the best ways to do this is through the use of social media marketing

In this blog, we'll go through a few ways that businesses can make the most of the opportunities afforded to them through the biggest social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

1. Consider your audience

Globally, there are over 2.5 billion users on social media. Don't expect to target them all at once - it's best to be realistic. However, there's a lot of merit in knowing your audience.

It's a good idea to do some research first to ensure you know the key traits of your target market. For example, if you're going after young creatives, it might be a good idea to use Pinterest and Instagram, whereas if you're looking to target a slightly older audience, you're better off using Facebook.

2. Don't underestimate the power of promotion

There are plenty of opportunities to sell your products online via social media. The best way to do this is to implement a promotion strategy.

Many businesses use the 80/20 principle - aiming for 80% of their posts to engage with their customers on a personal level, whilst 20% of posts aim to promote particular products or services. This way, you won't overload those who follow your social media accounts with too many selling posts, so they're more likely to pay attention to the occasions you do highlight particular products.

3. Set yourself some goals

Before you go about setting up various social media accounts, it's a good idea to put some goals in place so you and your employees or colleagues have something to aim for. That way, you can think tactically about conversion rates, lead generation and other aspects of online social media strategy

Setting realistic goals will also help you to evaluate your online success as you move through the year, adjusting your strategy based on current performance evaluations.
