6 ways to drive traffic to your blog

A popular blog can play an important role in digital marketing strategy. However, driving readers to your blog is easier said than done. It isn't enough to simply post what interests you. You need a clear strategy, driven by techniques that work. Get started with these six tips.

1. Post often

Search engines, such as Google, prioritise sites that offer new content. Make sure that you post at least twice a week – and more often, if possible. If you don't have the time to write content yourself, it could be worth hiring a digital agency.

2. Be clear about your target audience

Your blog should be consistent. Begin by defining your target audience and working out what they're looking for when they visit your site. Then, focus on a specific area, rather trying to please everybody. Try to come up with original ideas, rather copying what's already been done.

3. Use keywords

Keywords play a crucial role in Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Work out which keywords are likely to lead readers to your blog, then include them throughout your posts. For maximum SEO, keywords should feature in the post title, subheadings, content, images and links.

4. Use clever titles

Write titles that get attention by asking questions, inspiring curiosity or making provocative statements (without being offensive). Lists are great, too, because readers know they are easy to read.

5. Build links

Like keywords, links are vital to SEO. When you write a post pertaining to a business, place or website, be sure to place a hyperlink to it. Also, don't be shy to ask the relevant business to link its site to your blog. If you've featured their good or services, they're likely to be more than happy to help.

6. Engage time in cross-promotion

To get the most out of your post, cross-promote them. Every post should be shared via all your social media accounts, as well as your digital marketing mailing list.
