Case Study: QRTN SIMposium Event Web App

Case Study: QRTN SIMposium Event Web App

About the Client

Queensland Regional Training Networks (QRTN) support and facilitate quality health clinical training by connecting training providers and health services throughout Queensland. Their aim is to increase the quality and opportunities in clinical education and training, and strengthen collaboration across health and education sectors.

Client Objective

QRTN was to host a free two-day SIMposium at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre to showcase innovation in simulation, clinical placement and health professional learning environments. To encourage engagement at SIMposium and to provide quick access to session information, QRTN also required the design of an event web app with Live Twitter Feed. In addition, to promote the event QRTN required dedicated event webpages on their site, as well as custom email marketing to give potential attendees the opportunity to register their interest/attendance.

iFactory Solution

iFactory provided support across a range of areas to promote and facilitate QRTN’s SIMposium in Brisbane. Initially, iFactory custom designed dedicated event webpages that included: an easy-to-use registration form; a custom themed program; accommodation information with links to popular booking sites and affiliates; and location-specific information with links to printable material and Google Maps. To further promote the event, iFactory also devised and delivered an email marketing campaign. Continuing the custom theme on the website, EDMs were scheduled to build excitement and interest encouraging potential attendees to register their interest and, as the date neared, register attendance.

iFactory designed and built a responsive web app for QRTN’s SIMposium event using the CMS Joomla! with a URL extension to their existing website. iFactory’s design choices were therefore influenced by the Convention Centre’s Wi-Fi network and the number of attendees likely to access. Features of the App include the ability to filter session information by day and room, learn more about sessions, interact through a Live Twitter Feed, rate sessions and share via social media. Overall, QRTN had in excess of 300 attendees per day and the Event App was a vital tool at the event. As an added benefit, QRTN staff were able to quickly and easily self-manage content as administrators were already familiar with the Joomla! backend.

Event App special features include:

  • Custom icon to appear on device home screen
  • Ability to filter information by day and by room
  • Detailed information provided about each session
  • “Rate this Session” out of five stars, with ratings recorded in backend as a percentage
  • “Tweet to Live Feed” with pre-populated link to website and event hashtags
  • Live Twitter Feed
  • ShareThis feature for Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn users to share the event program in part, in its entirety or by individual session.
