Daily checklist for social media managers

Daily checklist for social media managers

As social media becomes increasingly ingrained in how we interact with one another, the pressure is on for marketers to convert Likes into leads. And it’s no wonder, especially as 71% of users say they’re more likely to purchase from a brand they follow online. The stakes are high.

In pursuing these leads though, it’s common for social media managers to spend part – if not all – of their day planning and creating content, switching between platforms, responding to comments and reviewing metrics.

If your boss has recently added Social Media Manager to your job title, or you’re starting out in social media marketing, here’s an idea of the duties you’d be expected to perform on a daily basis.

A day in the life of a Social Media Manager

  • Monitor and respond to inbound social messages.
  • Check alerts for both positive and negative brand mentions.
  • Create unique content for each channel and schedule – This involves crafting videos, images and other content for as many as 3-6 posts on Twitter, 1-2 posts on Facebook, 2-3 posts on Google+, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn.

Hint: A social media scheduling tool, such as Hootsuite, Viraltag or Schedugram, can help you build a content pipeline and prevent daily fire-fighting.

  • Write a blog post and schedule.
  • Identify and reach out to brand influencers and key fans.
  • Review traffic volumes, interaction and other relevant metrics to find out what’s worked.
  • Monitor competitor performance on social.
  • Research evolving social media marketing trends.
  • Check in with key decision-makers re opportunities for cross-promotion and positive brand promotion.
