Pantone reveals much-anticipated 2017 Colour of the Year

The Pantone Color of the Year is a much-anticipated announcement each year. So just which colour is the one to get into in the new year?

The Pantone Color of the Year is a much-anticipated announcement each year. In spite of this year being seemingly full of controversial news, it’s a refreshing change to anticipate the most popular annual colour, hue or shade.

Popular with designers, the fashion industry, Pinterest addicts and creative types the world over, the Pantone Color of the Year is the mammoth company’s contribution to conversations surrounding the language of colour.

So just which colour is the one to get into in the new year?

We can officially announce that Pantone Color of the Year 2017 is Greenery.

What is ‘Greenery’?

Pantone describes Greenery as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.”

Greenery is a break away from the staple beloved green shades of teal or turquoise and is a calming colour many would associate with the outdoors, nature, freshly cut grass or regeneration. It’s in line with the serene qualities of many blue/green shades, and combines this with a vibrant, inspirational feel – something we all need as the year draws to a close and we muster all of our motivation for another one.

What does Greenery represent?

Greenery was chosen by Pantone to represent 2017 due to it being “emblematic of the pursuit of personal passions and vitality.” This is particularly important as many enter the new year with a list of resolutions to better themselves and their overall lives.

For many, this could mean a passion project they hope to bring to fruition, a do-over of their existing home decor, working on what truly makes them happy or diving head-first into a new business endeavour.

Greenery is not only a reflection of mood through colour, but speaks to many who use colour-therapy as a way to increase their productivity and motivation levels when they are waning.

Pantone has also described Greenery as ‘trans-seasonal’, meaning that its versatility is vast and it is not just a great option year-round (regardless of popular seasonal hues), but can successfully be paired with any number of other colours.
