Does your WordPress site have a landing page, or a bouncing page?

How do we make sure that your WordPress website design stands out and sells your content?

Anybody who has developed a WordPress website by themselves for their business knows that it’s pretty easy, right? All you do is pick a theme, make some simple design choices, add your content, launch and you’re done!

Well, maybe… If the year was 2001 and we were still using flip phones. This is not the case.

These days your site will be buried amongst thousands of other similar pages and the average internet user has a shorter attention span than ever before. So, if your site does manage to get a hit and doesn’t grab whoever’s attention right then and there, they might vanish back into the ether of the web, never to be seen again.

So how do we make sure that your WordPress website design stands out and sells your content?

Look at your landing page

Well, we’ve all heard that saying about how ‘you only get one chance to make a first impression’? – it’s true.

The biggest part of getting someone who’s arrived at your site to stay there is your landing page. This is the first page they encounter on your site, so it must have a little bit of zing. An X-factor. Something that we would really want to see if we were the person behind the cursor.

If the first impression fails to charm, entice or captivate us, then the landing page actually becomes a bouncing page – and slingshots us back out to the Google stratosphere to find a better place to land.

The hardest part of it all is that it’s really difficult to create a landing page that has that certain x-factor. This is because we often don’t know exactly what we want – but we definitely know what we don’t want.

For example, here are a few things we definitely don’t want our landing page to have:

  • a bland or slapdash design
  • out of date information
  • irritating pop-up menus
  • spelling errors
  • white-on-white unreadable text

Any of these features will instantly turn your landing page into a bounce pad.
