Google confirms links still key in SEO
Links mean rankings, rankings mean visitors.
There is no denying the importance of search engine optimisation (SEO) when it comes to making your website easy to navigate; not only for users, but for search engines also. Search engines are developing in sophistication daily – their algorithms becoming more and more complex by the second. As the user, you of course don’t need to understand how they operate; you simply need to know what SEO does, and how it can enhance your website by attracting user traffic.
Google, the most frequently used search engine globally, states links mean rankings, and rankings mean visitors. Basically; if your site has strong and attractive links, things that online users are searching and wanting to find, it will rank highly on search engines.
Once it ranks highly on those search engines, it is exposed to an ever-increasing audience of information
consumers, some of whom may not even be searching for your site, but come across it as a result of similar searches and SEO on your part.
“Backlinks are a really, really big win in terms of quality for search results [… ] backlink relevance still really helps in making sure we return the best, most relevant, most topical set of search results.”
Matt Cutts, Google
Google recently stated, following updates to their algorithms that contrary to what many web users were saying, links were still one of the most imperative factors in Google’s ranking system. In other words Google highlighted that if your site does not have the right links; it simply will not achieve high rankings and the subsequent high volumes of visitors. The more backlinks a web page has pointing back to it, the more user traffic it will see; backlinks being the hyperlinks directing users from one web page to another website.
In contrast to what some online users believe, Google has stated it will continue to use links, in particular backlinks, to determine a page’s visitor frequency, and in turn assess what best serves the needs of the users searching for specific content.
“Backlinks still have many, many years left in them […] for the next few years, will continue to use links in order to assess the basic reputation of pages and websites.”
