Ikea catalogue ad spoofs Apple

The annual IKEA Catalogue launch has been a cornerstone of the Swedish furniture company’s marketing for a long time. But in mostly digital world, where devices have largely replaced books, it can be a little difficult to get excited about a printed catalogue.

Also with the iPhone 6 just about to launch, IKEA have launched their 2015 Catalogue in the manner usually reserved for much-anticipated tech devices for the world’s best gadget. In a complete Apple Spoof, the hilarious two-minute video demos the technological innovations of IKEA’s new 2015 paper catalogue.  The IKEA Catalogue invites you to ‘Experience the power of a book’, and rediscover ‘The Original Touch Interface.’ Notable features are proclaimed, like ‘Eternal Battery Life’, and pages that ‘load instantly, with zero lag’. It’s a “book book”… somewhat poking fun at the digital medium!

“At only 8 mm thin, and weighing in at less than 400 g, the 2015 IKEA Catalogue comes pre-installed with thousands of home furnishing ideas,” says “chief design guru” named Jorgen Eghammer in the video. Eghammer  acts as a mix between Apple’s senior vice president of design Jony Ive and late founder Steve Jobs.

The ad campaign will be featured in Singapore and Malaysia, including newspaper, outdoor, radio and cinema ads, according to Adweek.

We’ve seen heaps of good Apple commercial parodies before, but IKEA definitely gets major points for this promo. Love it!
