2016 Sensis Business Index

This blog is the second in iFactory’s new series on the results of the 2016 Sensis Business Index. The quarterly report, released by the industry-leader in business marketing across Australia, surveys the confidence and behaviour of 1,000 small to medium businesses across all of our major sectors. If you haven’t already, be sure to click through to our previous blog on the results of the study for the manufacturing industry, and stay tuned for further business results on our blog.

How things are looking for the building and construction industry

Our second article in this series focuses on the ever-competitive building and construction industry. One of the largest sectors across the length and breadth of Australia, with new small and medium enterprises popping up daily, the Sensis Business Index quarterly survey is crucial to gauge just what the confidence is among business owners in building and construction.

Considering last quarter’s results, where small and medium businesses in this sector recorded one of the lowest, most pessimistic results across sales, profitability, wages and employment of any industry, those in building and construction should be pretty happy with the way the industry has bounced back.

The June 2016 quarterly results from Sensis found that sales, profit, wages, prices and employment within small and medium enterprises of this field have bounced back in a big way. Building and construction confidence is now only just lagging behind the national average.

The Sensis report also found that the main issues impacting on positive or negative confidence within the industry was whether sales were substantial and “healthy”. Smaller, less-profitable sales were the biggest concern for business owners.
