Case Study: RBWH Foundation

The Foundation needed a CMS that could not only cope with new functionality requests such as supporting their newly-launched Alumni program but would also be easy to use by site administrators.

About the Client

The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) is Queensland’s largest hospital. As a teaching and research hospital, it’s responsible for some incredible medical discoveries, trials and health care. In 1985, RBWH Foundation was first established to bridge the gap between government funding and the cost of life-saving equipment, training and research. To raise funds, the RBWH Foundation relies heavily on the support of the Queensland community. Through the generosity of individuals, businesses and community groups and initiatives, RBWH Foundation is able to assist the hospital with their medical services and research. In 2014/15 alone, they were able to distribute $5.5 million towards research and other health initiatives.

Client Objective

Before approaching iFactory, RBWH Foundation’s existing website was developed in an outdated version of the popular Content Management System Joomla, which did not allow for future growth requirements. The Foundation needed a CMS that could not only cope with new functionality requests such as supporting their newly-launched Alumni program but would also be easy to use by site administrators.

Importantly, ecommerce functionality would need to be part of the new site’s DNA, allowing for the easy sale of Foundation merchandise and tickets to Foundation events. Other key requirements included integration with an existing donation management system and social media feeds.

iFactory Solution

iFactory built a new site using a combination of the world’s most popular Content Management System, WordPress, and its companion ecommerce solution WooCommerce. This allowed us to implement a modern and capable framework around an attractive design that looked good on mobile, tablet devices.

The site was built with Search Engine Optimisation in mind from the beginning, allowing relevant pages of the site to easily appear on popular search engine queries. A range of plugins extended the CMS’ capabilities to provide payment processing through eWay and social media feeds such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

The new site also allowed RBWH Foundation staff to manage email subscription lists through the Vision 6 platform. Visitors to the site could also create a profile that they could securely log in to and manage their details.
