HIV Foundation
Case Study
About the Client
Formed in December 2013 to replace the Queensland Government’s Ministerial Advisory Committee for HIV/AIDS, HIV Foundation Queensland is dedicated to reducing HIV transmission and working towards an HIV-free generation. Now operating as a not-for-profit organisation, the Foundation’s function is to implement comprehensive prevention programs, increase voluntary testing, treatment uptake, awareness of transmission and discrimination, and facilitate and support HIV/STI research in Queensland, all of which are underpinned by the Queensland HIV Strategy 2013-2015.
Client Objective
The Foundation required a custom-designed website underpinned by a Content Management System (CMS) and designed to target people diagnosed with HIV and to a greater extent their families, friends and extended networks. In addition to achieving a “family-friendly” design, the website had to be accessible on mobile devices including smartphones and tablets, and include a secure and easy-to-use online donations facility to be used in the near future.
iFactory Solution
To achieve an inclusive, “family-friendly” feel, iFactory’s design approach included clean lines and minimal colour palette with high quality images of “everyday” Australians in real life situations. To extend access to whole-of-population, the Drupal website is responsive for use on mobile devices, is suitable for use on multiple browsers (including IE8, Firefox 10, Google Chrome and Safari) and on various operating systems (including Mac and PC). It integrates with Google Language tools, ShareThis (an all-in-one widget that lets people share any content on the Web with friends via e-mail, social channels and more), Google Analytics and Vision 6 email marketing to handle email subscriptions. The site is also WCAG 2.0 (AA) compliant and offers secure, user-friendly functionality for online donations.
iFactory attributes the success of the project to the highly collaborative partnership between Foundation staff and iFactory designers and developers. The website was successfully unveiled at the 2014 International AIDS Conference in Melbourne, Australia.
